ABOUT ME

Josephine Burke

Art Psychotherapist and parenting support consultant

I have BA Hons in Hispanic Studies from Nottingham University, MA in Art Therapy from Goldsmiths College (UCL), PG Dip in CYPIAPT under 5s from UCL/Anna Freud/KCL and training in Ecotherapy, safeguarding, mindfulness, trauma, supervision, equality and diversity, solution based therapy to name a few.

I began my career in learning and development and HR for international and uk charities, so am passionate about resourcing staff and volunteers within organisations to fulfil their potential in line with organisational goals. I also developed programmes in creating more accessible environments within social enterprises and always advocated throughout my career for clear communication. I use my creativity to find innovative ways to provide supportive environments for colleagues and clients.

I worked with asylum seekers and refugees and for over 12 years for the NHS in a time pressured and risky environments providing high quality clinical assessment and treatment, professional consultation and advice and reflective practice. More recently I have set up my private practice, working with a variety of clients, professionals and organisations.

I use my knowledge of art therapy, ecotherapy, parenting, child development and attachment theory and systemic thinking to inform my practice supporting children, young people, adults, parents, therapists, health and social care professionals and organisations.

I provide evidence-based therapeutic services to children, families and adults through art psychotherapy, VIPP-SD (Video feedback Interaction to promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline) and the Incredible Years Parenting Programme.

I offer supervision to individuals and groups and consultations/reflective practise to organisations.

I am interested in therapy, consultation and supervision as I find it fascinating how each individual's experiences the world around them in their unique way and how this reflects our relationships to eachother and our environment. I aim to help people to find their strengths. Learning from each other, we can develop our understanding of how these varied views can contribute to a diverse and brilliant society.

I also aim to skill up organisations to enhance the work they do and their understanding of what managers, staff and volunteers need to be happy. It is our self esteem and happiness that leads to true success in relationships, learning, careers and well-being.

MY APPROACH

Health, Wellbeing, Education and Childcare

I love being a therapist as I am interested in people and how each individual experiences the world around them in their unique way. I aim to help people find their strengths and that we learn from each other. I believe that we all hold these varied and fascinating views as individuals, to make a diverse and brilliant world.

In this day and age, parents are often isolated and under-supported, and often feel like they are being 'bad parents'. I provide support that adults need to be the parents they want to be, rather than feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.

I also consult with organisations, such as health, educational and childcare settings to enhance the work they do and understanding of what infants, children and young people need to be happy. It is our self esteem and happiness that leads to true success in relationships, learning and well-being.

I hold self care as a core value In all the work I do.
